Charter Oak is one of the largest general agencies of Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutual), which opened its doors in 1851. Today, MassMutual is one of the most trusted brands in America, a legacy we’re proud to share*.

Our headquarters in Holyoke, Massachusetts is just minutes away from the one-room office on the corner of State and Main streets, where MassMutual first opened for business over 150 years ago.

Our History

We’ve been in business for more than 120 years. Since the appointment of our first general agent in 1886, leadership of our agency has changed hands only six times, including the appointments of our current general agents, Peter Novak and Brendan Naughton.

With more than $3.4 billion in client policy and account values(1) and over $11 billion in life insurance coverage in force, we continue to grow in ways that help us better serve our clients and communities.
